Meet Our Team: Experienced Teachers

Meet Our Teacher Liz

Liz has a degree in special education and has been teaching for 30 years. She chose to become a teacher due to a life-long desire to help and connect with others. Liz’s favorite part of teaching is when she can see the progress her students are making from week to week.  She enjoys hearing from families about the successes they are having at school and in life. She provides a positive learning space for her students and says:

“I really like teaching math to young students who are afraid of it!  I like to show students that math isn't scary but one big puzzle, and that once you crack the code you can solve any problem.”

Seeing her students grow and tackle challenging problems is something that Liz loves about teaching.

In her free time, Liz enjoys designing and flipping houses. She says, “It's awesome to change something that's a little old and tired into a beautiful place for someone to call their home”. When she’s not busy transforming houses, Liz enjoys spending time with her husband, two grown kids, dog, and two cats. She especially enjoys her family’s ‘Friday Pizza Nights’ that involve getting pizza and watching movies as a family. She also enjoys outings with the family dog, Oreo, to the various dog parks around Seattle. Although her family has a busy schedule with their own individual activities, moments like these allow Liz and her family to connect and spend time together.

Meet Our Professor Joseph

Joseph has spent nine years teaching at the University level and twenty years teaching test preparation courses that include SAT, ACT, AP classes, and TOEFL. He has an MBA degree from Regent and a BA from U.C. Berkeley. Currently he is pursuing a Teaching Certificate of Higher Education from Harvard University’s Derek Bok Center for Teaching and Learning. Joseph loves how teaching provides him with the opportunity to see his students grow and succeed in difficult subject areas.

Joseph says that he “grew up as a Korean American in Orange County, CA”, which drove his decision to live and work in South Korea after graduating from university. While living in South Korea, Joseph worked as an assistant professor and published four books relating to international business. He continued his pursuit of experiencing different aspects of Asian culture by traveling to many different countries, including Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, China, and the Philippines. His experiences abroad and in the United States have given Joseph a strong sense of understanding and cultural sensitivity. Joseph has two kids, ages seven and ten, and he feels that being a parent has made him an even better teacher.
